What You’ll Experience

As demo participants ride in comfort, they’ll experience Raven’s closed-loop situational awareness system in action. The Raven Onboard Unit (OBU) receives live Traveler Information Messages (TIMs) in near real-time via Verizon’s Edge Transportation Exchange, all orchestrated through Esri’s Transportation – GeoXchange ® (TGX) platform.

At the same time, Raven’s road-facing camera uses AI at the edge to detect hazards, work zones, and other road conditions. These insights are sent back to TGX, where they are validated and shared with infrastructure operators—such as municipalities—for timely response. The updated information is then relayed through Verizon’s network to other connected road users, creating a real-time, data-driven feedback loop that enhances awareness and safety across the transportation ecosystem.

More Information

What Is The Raven Onboard Unit?

The Raven Onboard Unit (OBU) is an advanced edge computing device that transforms any vehicle into a connected node within a V2x ecosystem. Equipped with cameras, sensors, and a direct connection to the vehicle’s ECU, it enables real-time awareness and communication.

Raven receives Traveler Information Messages (TIMs) and displays mapped points of interest to enhance driver situational awareness. At the same time, its AI-powered camera detects new road hazards in real-time and shares that information with surrounding infrastructure and other vehicles, bringing the V to V2x today.

What is The Esri Transportation – GeoXchange ® (TGX)?

The Esri Transportation – GeoXchange ® (TGX)is a spatiotemporal data platform designed to manage, store, and distribute real-time transportation event data, like Traveler Information Messages (TIMs), across connected systems.

TGX enables seamless communication between vehicles, infrastructure, and transportation agencies by aggregating data from multiple sources, including field-detected events. It ensures TIMs are efficiently delivered to drivers, infrastructure operators, and network platforms, helping power safer, smarter, and more responsive roadway operations.

What Is the Verizon Edge Transportation Exchange?

Edge Transportation Exchange is an integrated mobile-network vehicle-to-everything (V2x) communication platform that allows a vehicle to communicate with other connected vehicles, road users, and infrastructure around it.

What Are TIMs?

TIMs, or Traveler Information Messages, are digital messages sent to vehicles and road users to provide important updates about road conditions. They deliver real-time information, such as work zone alerts or other roadway advisories, to help drivers navigate safely and efficiently. By enhancing situational awareness, TIMs play a key role in improving traffic flow and safety.
