For years, cities around the world have invested billions into connected infrastructure with the hope of unlocking the promise of safer, smarter roads. Yet too often, these initiatives stall in “pilot purgatory.” Vehicles can’t easily communicate with infrastructure, drivers don’t get critical safety alerts in time, and the vision of a seamless, intelligent transportation network feels perpetually just out of reach.

That’s why we partnered with Esri Canada and Verizon Business to show what’s possible right now. Together, we brought a live network V2x (Vehicle-to-Everything) ecosystem to the streets of downtown Atlanta as part of the Day One Deployment District at ITS World Congress 2025

Interoperability in Action

This wasn’t a simulation; it was a real-world, functioning demonstration of how industry collaboration and proven interoperability can turn isolated technologies into a unified intelligence loop:

  • Raven Connected’s Onboard Unit (OBU): Equipped with a road-facing camera and edge AI, our OBU detects hazards in real time—for the purpose of this demonstration, that included identifying new work zones. Just as importantly, the OBU isn’t limited to sending data; it also receives Traveler Information Messages (TIMs) from others, ensuring drivers benefit from both local AI-driven detection and broader network intelligence.
  • Esri Canada’s Transportation GeoXchange® (TGX): The Esri Transportation – GeoXchange ® (TGX)is a spatiotemporal data platform designed to manage, store, and distribute real-time transportation event data, like Traveler Information Messages (TIMs), across connected systems. TGX enables seamless communication between vehicles, infrastructure, and transportation agencies by aggregating data from multiple sources, including field-detected events. It ensures TIMs are efficiently delivered to drivers, infrastructure operators, and network platforms, helping power safer, smarter, and more responsive roadway operations.
  • Verizon Edge Transportation Exchange: Is an integrated mobile-network vehicle-to-everything (V2x) communication platform that allows a vehicle to communicate with other connected vehicles, road users, and infrastructure around it.

The result? Every detection becomes protection for the entire transportation network.

Why It Matters

The collaboration showcased a complete, closed-loop V2X environment, from hazard detection to validated data to real-time driver alerts. This is not a future promise; it’s here today:

  • Closed-Loop Intelligence: From detection to driver alert in near real time
  • Proven Interoperability: Multiple platforms working harmoniously together
  • Edge-to-Cloud Integration: AI detection at the edge, validation in the cloud
  • Infrastructure-Ready: Direct integration with North American IOO environments

Experience It Yourself

We’re not just talking about the future of transportation, we’re driving it. Visitors to the Day One Deployment District at ITS World Congress 2025 had the chance to book a ride and experience this live V2X ecosystem firsthand.

The takeaway is clear: V2N/V2X applications aren’t just possible, they’re practical, deployable, and available now.
